The Serbian outlet “,Informer.rs” on December 18, 2024, published an article titled: “The EU and NATO’s Goal Revealed! Kurti Wants to Eliminate the Serb List and Create a ‘Greater Albania’ – Serbia Needs a Non-Paper.”
In its content, the outlet cited the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Zivadin Jovanovic, who claimed that old methods of ethnic discrimination, the expulsion of Serbs, and a general escalation of the situation are increasingly being practiced in Kosovo. Moreover, without offering any evidence, he added that all of this is being done with the blessing of the European Union and NATO partners.
“What can we suppose, except that for these partners, the real goal is a Greater Albania and a smaller Serbia? When we tell them they are gravely mistaken, they do not take it seriously. In this case, we need to think and adopt a stance that they would understand because the way we have been explaining our position so far clearly does not generate results,” said Jovanovic.
The narrative that Kurti does not want the Serb List as part of Kosovo's political scene gained traction after December 5, when deputies from Vetëvendosje hampered members of the Serb List from entering the plenary hall of the Assembly. This action was justified on the grounds that the Serb List members have never distanced themselves from the attacks in the north and appeared in the Assembly only to sign in and secure their salaries. The Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, after this action, which was deemed to be in violation of the law, interrupted the plenary session. The Serb List then reacted with a Facebook post, stating that Prime Minister Albin Kurti is “doing everything possible” to eliminate the Serb List.
This is not the first time that Serbian officials and media have claimed, without evidence, that the goal of the government led by Kurti is the creation of a “Greater Albania” and the expulsion of all Serbs from Kosovo.
