The upcoming elections in the United States of America are attracting much attention worldwide, including in the Western Balkans region.
In the new Alternativna’s podcast, the host Sanja Sovrlić spoke with the assistant director of the Atlantic Council, Luka Ignac, about the possible outcomes of these elections and their impact on international politics, especially on Kosovo-Serbia relations.
Ignac pointed out that the election campaign brought sudden changes, whereby Vice President Kamala Harris managed to strengthen the position of the Democrats, which could affect the political continuity towards the Balkans in case of her victory.
On the other hand, the potential victory of Donald Trump could lead to a transactional approach towards the region, with a greater role for Europe. While leaders in the Balkans closely follow these elections, Ignac emphasizes that the Balkans is not currently a priority in the American foreign policy agenda, further complicating expectations of future US moves towards the region.
