Yesterday, September 30, in cooperation with the NGO CASA, the fourth public discussion was held in North Mitrovica, as part of the project "Fighting Extremism in Kosovo: Trends, Challenges and Countermeasures", supported by the Matra program Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kosovo.
The discussion was moderated by Boban Simic, while the topic entitled "Understanding Extremism in Intra-Community contexts" was addressed by lecturer Bojan Elek. The discussion started with an immediate interaction with the participants, contributing to an open atmosphere that made the discussion even more productive.
Elek provided a comprehensive analysis of extremism, describing the key factors that contribute to its emergence. He emphasized three essential components: understanding extremism, the emotional reactions it triggers, and the actions it prompts in individuals. He explained that extremism is often the result of a combination of social, natural, and marginalizing circumstances, starting with influences from belonging, identity, and leaders, but also highlighting the significant role that social networks play in the growth of extremism. In addition to Bojan Elek's lecture, participants also shared their experiences and personal thoughts regarding extremism within the community, engaging in a rich and meaningful conversation that reflected the complexity of the phenomenon of extremism.
